Early last summer I asked readers of this blog to share their personal experiences with chronic disease either as comments here or privately via email. Thank you to everyone who responded. Those stories and perspectives were extremely valuable for a book I’ve been working on which will be published in the spring of 2017. Stay tuned for more information on that.
In the meantime, I am honored that my friend Carol J. Adams, author of the groundbreaking book The Sexual Politics of Meat has asked me to co-author a new book with her, The Sexual Politics of Dairy. This is a project that will most likely evolve as we delve into the subject matter, but our plan is to look at all aspects of dairy: The physical abuse of cows, the ways in which dairy products have been marketed to women as absolutely essential for health and also for weight loss, the negative impacts of marketing dairy foods to those with lactose intolerance, and of course, the misogynistic representations of both women and cows in popular culture and advertising.
We’re hoping to share photos and ads in the book so if you come across any images or cultural references that you would like to share, please send them to us at sexualpoliticsofdairy@gmail.com. As always, I appreciate the help that my blog readers offer on all my projects.
I’m really excited to learn that this book is coming out and that you’ll be contributing! The Sexual Politics of Meat was incredibly thought-provoking and helpful to me in becoming a more educated advocate for veganism. Looking forward to reading this new book. Congrats!
I could not love you more. I can’t wait for this book from you and Carol!
I am so thrilled to hear this. I absolutely loved The Sexual Politics of Meat and wait with bated breath for the publication of The Sexual Politics of Dairy. As an RD candidate with a huge personal interest in vegan nutrition, it’s incredible to hear that you will be contributing to what sounds like an important piece of sociological literature. Thank you Ginny!
I look forward to this!
